CHAPTER 11
He stood in the tree line glaring at the X-mansion. These people were really making Alex's mission a lot harder than it was supposed to be. Bringing back half vampires who didn't want to come along in the first place was so much harder when they had friends who were willing to fight for them. But he'd fix that. Gambit would have no choice but to come back to the Covenant after he'd finished. He'd promised Min that he'd watch over her son and this was the only way he could find to keep that promise.
"I do hope your ready for me X-men. I'm ready for you," he grinned
mischeviuosly and vanished in the shadows.
_____________________________________________________________________________
<Well isn't dis just wonderful!?> Gambit was lying on his stomach with his head at the foot of the bed. His arms were folded under his chin and he stared absently at the book he had been reading. It wasn't nearly as interesting as what went on in his real life so his mind had wondered from the printed words. <Now dat's two people in the house who don't trust ya cuz of ya powers and one who can't understand why ya hidin' them!>
He knew Jean thought it odd that he would want to hide his telepathic abilities. Rogue was hard pressed to trust him because his powers had automatically shielded him when she had kissed him so long ago. She could feel the darkness behind the shields he had accidently placed in her mind, but even though she couldn't see why they were so dark, it had been enough to make her leave as long as she had. Psylocke had tried to tresspass in his mind when he had been in the coma induced by Rogue's kiss. He had insctinctively cut her off but had done it in such a way that she had realized there was something more to his powers than he let on. At least she hadn't said anything to anyone else. At least, he hoped she hadn't.
He didn't think the X-men would condemn him for what had happened; The events that kept him from mentioning his power. If anything, they'd probably be sympathetic. But it was what had happened after he had gained control that would make him lose everything. That Theater had been so closed in, so crowded. Even the power he had now was lethal in such closed quarters, the power he had then was so much stronger. But just as uncontollable. Sinister had offered him that control; dulled the power and shown him how to use it. He didn't know, or maybe just didn't want to know, what Sinister would ask of him in return. All he had thought about was the people around him, screamming, dying, because of him.
And now his power was growing and he was losing control again. The change into his half vampire form had hightened his powers and made them harder to keep a handle on. He hoped Jean wouldn't spill what had happened in the Danger Room to the others. If she did, they would ask questions and sooner than later, he would have to explain everything. How he lost control and how Sinister had helped. And then what Sinister had done to him and what Sinister had made him do. He just couldn't go through that again. Remy wouldn't be able to bear it if he lost the X-men. They were his family now. That was something he needed.
Remy chewed his lower lip in frustration. His frustration mounted
into annoyance as the sharp teeth he hadn't yet grown accustomed to pierced
the flesh of his lip. Cursing, he wiped the drops of blood that had fallen
onto the book pages. More drops pooled in his mouth and over his tongue.
It had a pleasant bittersweet taste that filled his mouth. <Stop it
!!> he snapped at himself. The thought of Alex being right ignighted the
flame of defiance that was so much a part of his character. He would beat
this vampire. At Alex's own game if he had to.
END PART 11
I thought I'd try to elaborate on the plot dangler Marvel left us on about the theater in Seattle. But not much of course. With the way Marvel wraps things up, what little I did say is bound to be completely wrong. But this story isn't much for continuity, anyway.
