I Don't Freakin' Believe It

by Smoot

(whose entire thought process is random)

This edition of my rant is aimed at anyone who has anything to do with fanfic, and generally anyone at all. It has to do with some of the things that have been going on as of late in the fanfic world, especially events at Outside the Lines, the fanfic mailing list... thing.

Mockery edited and I think posted a little list of things the X-Men might say when asked the question "Why did the chicken cross the road?". The answers given really made me laugh, and I thought it was great. It's saved on my computer right now. I mean, I thought it was great.

Well, I tune into OTL the next day, and lo and behold, the poor soul is being annihilated by some of the OTLers for writing something that wasn't nice to the X-Men. I got pissed right off, because the first thing that sprang to my mind was what happened to me about two weeks ago.

I posted one of my stories, the X-Men-Final Fantasy thing, to OTL, in HTML without knowing that I wasn't supposed to. Alara Rogers was the first one to point that out, and she did it in particularly holier-than-thou fashion. I understand that she was pissed, and at me, I suppose, but it was also posted to the entire group. I didn't agree with that, but I kept my mouth shut, becuase I'm new to the list. And that turned me off posting, because some people could be a lot politer than they are.

But the chicken thing set me off. I'm really sorry all this happened to the people who came up with all of that. It was great, we all loved it. It was the freakin' dembasses who treat their writing fanfic like a RELIGION that screwed it all over for everyone.

This is going out to everyone who attacked those people for writing that. F*ck you.

Get over yourselves, all right?! It's fanfic!! It's a hobby! To those people, it was fun!! What in blue blazes is your problem, that you have to go about taking everything someone writes and dissecting it until it's no longer a humor piece, it's something aimed right at your favorite character out of malice? What the hell is that?

Look. They are *fictional* characters. Fictional. Say it with me now. Fic--tion--al. There ya go, I knew you could do it!

If I want to write Colossus as a complete moron or Angel like a pansy-ass whiner or Cyclops as a soulless moron who can only shout orders becuase his feeble mind can handle the stress of regular life, that's my right. I do not need to be flamed by you idiots who worship these characters and build altars to them.

Ohhhhhh, I'm not done. This goes out to all the OTLers. Get over yourselves! Seems like about ten of you have your heads so far stuck up your own asses that everything one of you says, the rest have to second, third, etc., etc.! I'm a newcomer to OTL, and I already have strong urges to send email viruses to you! (Not that I have any idea who to actually go about doing that, sadly.)

There is a holier-than-thou group of people who do all the regular posting to OTL. I'm not one of those people. I don't post anymore, period. I have a fragile ego, and after seeing what those few people did to attack those writers, I'm not risking my self-confidence in posting something do all of you can bite my head off for it!

This is getting increasingly hostile, but I don't care anymore. I have a few things to say that I think most people have too much tact to say. I don't have that problem.

Right now, I hate fanfic. I hate OTL, I hate the X-Men, but mostly, I hate those few writers. Just 'cause I've only written half of two fanfics does not make me any less of a person than the rest of you, but you seem to see your experience as a right to enforce your views on the rest of the fanfic world. The rest of us are going to write the way we want to, whether you sons of bitches like it or not. Like I said before, get over yourselves. We don't give a damn about what you think we do wrong if you're going to attack anything that doesn't perfectly fit your specifications. I'm still going to finish writing "The X-Men vs. the Trumpet Mafia", which is going to be loads of fun, and it's going on OTL so the *mature* ones can read it. The rest of you don't like it, bite me.

And I will apologize to a few people now. Spade, I'm sorry you were the one who had to hear me complain about all this earlier this week. Anyone at Fortunecity, I apologize for shouting and cussing this much. And the people who were hoping to find something directly related to the comics, I'm sorry you wandered in during my tirade. Other than that, I have no one else to validate myself to.

-a very stressed out Smoot, who will be back to his charming and lovable self after Christmas.
