I Don't Freakin' Believe It

Um, hello. You came here, and you obviously are interested in reading this. Either that or you stumbled upon this by accident. Either way, keep reading, I'll keep you entertained.

This is the section of my page where I will divulge whatever the hell it is on my mind to you wonderful people paying attention to me. For this week, the week of November 7, the topic is...

Fanfic Writer's Depression.

Stumbling around on the CFAN messageboard, I found posts from people who were getting depressed, and partly because they feel unappreciated as writers. That they felt that no one liked their work, no one told them about their work, and that no one cared. Well, this might sound harsh, but welcome to the club.

You see, fanfic writers rarely get feedback. I know, the only person who gave me feedback was one of my best friends who read the thing for me and acted as editor. Other then her, no one's told me anything.

But you can't let that bother you. If the only reason you write is for people to tell you that it's good and boost your ego, you're writing for the wrong reason. Most people write to express themselves, others do so for the sheer joy of creating. I started writing fanfics because I was bored with regular stories, and look where I am now. Nowhere, that's where. But I'm enjoying it here, let me tell you now.

So if you're gonna say that you don't know why you keep writing, find out why. If it's because no one sends you feedback, don't fell like you're excluded from some club. The rest of us don't get much either. But if it's because of something bothering you about your personal life, I can't be of much help there. There is no way I know enough about anyone's life to help them through a real-life problem, I'm still ducking all of mine.

But if you're feelin' down, try and write some. If you're angry, pick a character you don't like (or a writer: Raab and Lobdell are always favorites) and write a scene where your faves just beat the tar out of him. It works wonders, I'm telling you. Personally, I'm partial to Gambit blowing the hell outta Leonardo DiCaprio, but that's just me. *grin*

If you're sad, either watch Comedy Central or read or write something funny. ("Bathroom Symphony" by Lori McDonald helped pull me out of a funk last year) But don't give up writing, especially if you're a talented writer, which there are a lot of online so far.

Wait, this turned into an advice column. "Dear Abby..." Ughh. Man, that sucked. Next week, I'll probably be pissed at something, and I'll write about it. Until then, remember these simple words.

"Gambit is back, all is right with the world."

Well, if someone with any brains or balls could write him, all would be right with the world...

*grin*
